Herzog and a lack of ringing.
Two things!

First, my phone isn't working because I am poor and didn't pay my bill.

So it will probably be like that for another week plus.

But more betterly...

The Portland State College Republicans (hosted by yours truly) is proud to present on April 10th Werner Herzog's "Little Dieter Need to Fly".

It will be showing in Smith 236 from 6-8pm, free of charge.

I finally saw "Incident at Loch Ness" which seems to have been made for me and maybe 3 other people

That is a wonderful film, and even more amazing when you see Rescue Dawn and know that there are real terrible things they didn't even put in the fiction version.

Oh man. The interview in front of the jellyfish. And the one by the water.

I didn't like Rescue Dawn very much.

Because it wasn't as intense as the documentary and they watered down Dieter's amazing story

Rescue Dawn is weird. For most of it, the film is a fairly average Hollywood Vietnam movie. Then, all of the sudden, there is a Herzog moment! Very odd.

Are you going to see Voltaire on Saturday in your fancy town? You should because I cannot and it makes me very sad.

Yeah, it's something about not wanting to be taxed so much. It's weird how us poor people think.

But the Republican Party doesn't care about taxing you. Hell, many of them want a national sales tax, which would hurt the working class the most. I'm not saying Dems are much better when it comes to helping the working class, but the Republicans certainly don't have your interests at heart. And if you're buying into the "less government is better" philosophy, I think the current financial crisis should have put that canard to rest.

Well, it does care about taxing me. I am getting back more than half of my federal taxes. I am getting back pennies from Oregon. Why? Because of the heavy democratic taxation of Oregon. All those measures to up taxation and charges from Salem. Boo!

As for the national sales tax? If you read the general conclusion of that movement, it's to create a national (consumption) based sales tax while abolishing the Interal Revenue Service, getting rid of the income tax. This would be a consumption based tax, which taxes for excessive consumption. Who consumes excessively? Sure as hell not poor people like me.

As to the banking crises? Look at what Sen. Dodd and Rep. Frank pushed back about 10 years ago with the pushing of banks to make risky as hell loans to people they damn well knew couldn't afford them.

This isn't just a democratic/republican creation.

And I'd rather have freedom in the markets than the government controlling car companies, taking over banking institution, etc. I cannot believe the same genius that brought me the hours long DMV line or the incompetence of FEMA and the unquestioning group which brought me Iraq (that's congress, btw) can do anything better a private company.

Hi, who was in the majority in Congress when the Iraq War resolution was shoved through? The Patriot Act?

Did the GOP have a super majority that could have blocked any effort by the Dems to meaningfully challenge both of those?

You had Senators Kerry, Biden and Clinton voicing proud support for the War Resolution. That's crazy. They weren't challenging.

And I will fully say, Iraq War? Baaad. I protested against it. In the streets, proudly. Wrote to my congresspersons to vote against it.

However, some aspects of the Patriot Act were good. No one talks about the limits on intelligence sharing, which was one of the primary reasons the information between the CIA and FBI were not shared more quickly. Patriot Act tried to fix that. It had unconstitutional parts too, which should have never been put in, which made the bill a bad bill. The fact that no one read it prior to voting on it, also shameful on both parties. I would not have voted on such a tainted bill, I do not support it. But both issues were bi-partisan, with good (but not majority) democratic support.

You, like myself, should be pissed at both parties for this.
